LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – A 3-year-old girl whose skull was fractured by a line drive during batting practice at Dodger Stadium was scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. The accident that caused the surgery occurred Monday when Dodgers catcher Russell Martin hit a line drive in the stands near third base. ENCINITAS, CALIFORNIA – A bus rider called the Sheriff’s Department Tuesday when he thought the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Deputies stopped the bus, route 309 from Oceanside to Encinitas, at around 4:30 p.m. The bus was heading east on Encinitas Boulevard near Calle Magdalena at the time. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the deputies determined the driver showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol. They subsequently conducted field sobriety tests. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – 57-year-old Christian Hansen Gunn was killed in a San Bernardino car accident after the 2002 Nissan Sentra in which he was a passenger was involved in a head-on collision on State Route 18. The Sentra was traveling north on Route 18 near Old Waterman Canyon Road on the morning of May 29 when a Dodge Neon traveling in the southbound lane hit the Sentra head-on.
Police said the driver of the Neon was street racing at the time of the collision and his excessive speed and lack of attention to the road caused the collision. Gunn died at the scene of the accident. The Sentra’s driver and two people who had been in the Neon were taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.
